Brimfield Or Bust!
Brimfield Flea Market is located in Brimfield, MA and it is one of the largest shows on the east coast if not the largest. It is near Old Sturbridge Village and a beautiful, large white church anchors the center of town that’s so picturesque it should be on a post card. Three times a year for a week buyers and sellers descend on this tiny town to buy, sell and experience the awe of unbridled consumerism. And it is amazing!
I was about 7 years into the “antiques business” when I first went with the hubs. It was just after I opened the store and I was dumbfounded at the awesome items that the sellers had collected to sell. Every booth had something I had only seen in books, and the dealers were so confident in their craft, I wanted to be them.
This year, 7 years later, I made the pilgrimage again with friends (the hubs had to work and take care of our old dog) and it was just as awesome. The market follows Rt 20 and is about three quarters of a mile long and the “fields” run on either side of the road. Yes, I said fields, each field is about a football field deep and there are multiples. The fields open in sequence over the course of 5 days. Thankfully, the weather was great and a good time and some great shopping was had by all. We saw some friends from Miss Morgan’s Show at the Lebanon Expo Center, saw some of our local neighbors, Side Street Salvage in Elverson and made some new friends which may involve a future road trip.
I am still in awe of the place, but I’ve learned a thing or two; sunscreen is a must, wear good shoes, the good stuff is in the fields you have to pay to enter and know your craft, knowledge is power. Will I go back? DEFINITELY and I won’t wait 7 years.
